Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Finance Department—Investment Funds.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state the names of the several investment funds directly or indirectly under the control of his Department at (a) 31st March, 1938, and (b) 31st March, 1939; the amount of such funds invested in foreign securities and the nature of such securities; the nominal value of such securities and their market value at (a) 31st March, 1938, and (b) 31st March, 1939, or the last previous date on which there were dealings in such securities.

I propose, with the Deputy's permission, to circulate the information requested with the Official Report.

The following is the reply: The names of the several investment funds directly or indirectly under my control on the dates mentioned are as follows:—Savings Bank Fund, National Health Insurance Fund, National Health Insurance Central Fund, Approved Societies (Officers) Guarantee Fund, Savings Certificates (Interest Charge Equalisation) Fund, Pensions Investment Account, Unemployment Fund Investment Account, Woods and Forests Fund, Teachers' Pension Fund, Land Registry Insurance Fund, Sanatoria Fund, Escheated Estates Fund, Secondary Teachers' Pensions Fund, Land Bond Fund, National Loans Sinking Fund. Held by the Irish Land Commission:—Surplus receipts—Rent and Interest Account, Church Temporalities Fund.

On 31st March, 1938, the amount of such funds invested in foreign securities was £14,906,299, the nominal value of such securities was £16,452,381, and the market value was £15,488,855. On 31st March, 1939, the amount of the funds invested in such securities was £13,326,727, the nominal value was £14,764,004, and the market value was £12,971,871. Holdings of foreign securities on each of the dates mentioned consisted exclusively of British Government securities.
