Vol. 78 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Investments by Publicly-Owned Corporations.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state in respect of each publicly-owned corporation (e.g., the Electricity Supply Board, the Currency Commission, etc.) the total moneys under their control and invested at (a) 31st March, 1938, and (b) 31st March, 1939, the sum in each case invested in foreign securities and the nature of such securities, the nominal value of the securities, and their market value at (a) 31st March, 1938, and (b) 31st March, 1939, or at the last previous date on which there were dealings in these securities.

It has been pointed out on previous occasions in reply to Parliamentary questions that Ministers cannot be expected to furnish information in regard to matters for which the boards of the undertakings referred to have full discretion and responsibility—subject, of course, to any specific restrictions imposed by law. The annual accounts and balance sheets of the bodies specifically referred to by the Deputy are presented to the Dáil and as the details published in them are governed by statutory arrangements, I must refer the Deputy to documents in question.
