Vol. 78 No. 5

Supplementary Estimate—Leave to Introduce.

I move:—

That leave be given by the Dáil to introduce the following Supplementary Estimate for the service of the year ending on the 31st day of March, 1940, namely:—

Vote No. 25 (Supplementary Agricultural Grants).

When will it be circulated?

This evening, I think.

I should like to inquire of the Minister whether, in view of the fact that it is getting more and more evident that we are going to have a general election in January or February, it is intended to circulate this document in time to have the money distributed before the general election takes place.

I was not aware that you were so anxious to go before the public again.

Oh, yes, but I should like to know if it is intended to circulate this document before the general election?

When is this Estimate to be taken?

Before the general election. That is the important matter.

Mr. Byrne

Which January has the Deputy in mind? Is it January, 1940, or January, 1942?

January, 1940, which marks the end of Fianna Fáil.

I should think that January is a bad month for elections.

The next business is No. 4, the Pigs and Bacon Bill.

I have that figure now, Sir, and perhaps I might be permitted to announce it?

The figure is £370,000.

Is that the customary amount?

Mr. Brennan

That is the usual amount, is it not?
