Vol. 78 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Price of Turkeys.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if it is intended to make an order fixing a minimum price for turkeys before the Christmas markets.

It is not proposed to fix a minimum price for turkeys.

Would the Minister consider the advisability of publishing some figure which would serve as the approximate price that turkeys should realise in the local markets? It has been the experience in past years that, in certain markets, only one or two buyers turned up and that people were constrained to sell their birds for 4d. or 5d. per lb., to discover that, on the following day when four or five buyers attended a local market the price of turkeys went up to 10d. and 1/- per lb.

I will consider and see if anything can be done in regard to that.
