Vol. 78 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Youghal Workhouse Buildings.

asked the Minister for Defence whether he received a communication from the Youghal Urban District Council several months ago requesting him to consider the taking over of the old workhouse buildings at Youghal for a military barracks; if so, whether he will take any action in the matter in view of the great overcrowding in many military barracks and the suitability of those premises for accommodating members of the Sluagh stationed in the vicinity.

A communication from the Youghal Urban District Council was received some time ago and the council was informed that the old workhouse buildings were not required for military purposes. The circumstances have not since changed and there is sufficient accommodation available in existing military premises in the Southern Command area.
