Vol. 78 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Rotational Schemes.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state (a) the total number of men employed on rotational schemes during each week in the year 1939; (b) the average daily rate of pay of the men employed on such schemes, and (c) the percentage of such men in respect of whom (1) national health insurance cards, and (2) unemployment insurance cards were stamped while they were so employed.

A statement which will be circulated gives the estimated number of men employed on rotational schemes for each week from 1st January, 1939, to the latest date for which returns are available, viz., 25th November, 1939; the statement also shows the percentage of such workmen in respect of whom (1) national health insurance cards, and (2) unemployment insurance cards were stamped. Without an examination of the wages sheets for some 4,000 separate schemes it would not be possible to state the average daily rate of wages paid; but the rates vary from 4/6 to 11/4 per day according to the class of work and the locality in which it is being performed. The following table gives the particulars requested:—
