Vol. 78 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Margarine and Vitamins A and D.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health whether he will consult competent authorities with a view to deciding whether it is desirable to legislate to compel manufacturers of margarine for sale in Éire to incorporate suitable quantities of vitamins A and D in such margarine.

The matter is being considered in conjunction with the Department of Agriculture.

Inasmuch as all margarine manufacturers in this country are now incorporating vitamins in their margarine, I think as a matter of urgency that it might be desirable to legislate to compel manufacturers of margarine in the case of any new company that might be established, to incorporate vitamins A and D so that these might not be witheld in the case of any new product put on the market in the way of margarine.
