Vol. 78 No. 13

Additional Estimate. - Vote 72—Repayments to Contingency Fund.

I wonder would there be any opposition to taking this Vote now?

It was not mentioned on the Business for the Day?

If we agree to take it now will this let you off on your holidays? Much as I would like to give it to you, and far as I would go to meet you, I am afraid we cannot do so as you have not circulated it.

It has been circulated. I got it.

Very well, we will consider taking it now.

I move:—

Go ndeontar suim ná raghaidh thar £913 chun íoctha an Mhuirir a thiocfaidh chun bheith iníoctha i rith na bliana dar chríoch an 31adh lá de Mhárta, 1940, chun Roimhíocanna Ilghnéitheacha áirithe d'aisíoc leis an gCiste Teagmhais.

That a sum not exceeding £913 be granted to defray the Charge which will come in course of payment during the year ending 31st March, 1940, to repay to the Contingency Fund certain Miscellaneous Advances.

The main part of this sum is for stamp duty. The Government has to pay stamp duty on all its documents that require to be stamped. They pay stamp duty in the ordinary course the same as anybody else, and then the money is refunded.

Is it only stamp duty?

Stamp duty remitted on deeds and other instruments for public departments, and the refunds of fees paid for wireless telegraphy experimenters' licences subsequently revoked because of the emergency. That last item came to £49 17s. 11d. There was also the Triplets Bounty. The aggregate of Triplets payments covered by the Estimate is £12.

How many times did you pay Triplets Bounty last year?

Three times. This estimate is four cases at £3 each.

Vote put and agreed to.
