Vol. 78 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Foreshore Regulations.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will take immediate steps to have restrictions such as have been imposed at Dunworley Strand, Clonakilty, removed so as to permit the agricultural community to avail of the advantages which a supply of sand and seaweed mean to them in the cultivation of crops.

Dunworley Strand, Clonakilty, is assumed to be the foreshore adjacent to the townlands of Lehenagh, Lissycrimeen and Dunworley at Dunworley Bay, and the circumstances there are similar to those existing at other places on the coast where there is no danger of erosion rendering necessary special restrictions on the removal of beach material. Licences authorising the removal of sand and seaweed for use as fertiliser have already been granted and all applications for such licences will receive sympathetic consideration. A reversion of the policy of requiring persons wanting beach material to apply for licences cannot be contemplated.

Arising out of the Minister's reply, my information in regard to Dunworley Strand is that farmers were not allowed to cart sand from parts of it. I had a similar question down last week, and as it is not a matter which I can discuss across the House I should be glad if the Minister would give me an opportunity of discussing it with him to-day?

Certainly.

Will the Minister give a similar opportunity to Deputies from other areas who are interested in this matter?

Certainly.
