Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Teaching of Irish.

asked the Minister for Education if, in view of the opinions expressed at the recent congress of national teachers in Killarney relative to the harm done to the children and the language by what were described as the unsatisfactory methods of teaching subjects through the medium of Irish, he will have the whole question of the teaching of Irish inquired into.

This matter is too important to be dealt with in a reply to a Parliamentary question. I would suggest to the Deputy that it be left over until the appropriate Estimates are being discussed. Meantime, I can assure him that the teaching of Irish and through Irish in the schools is under constant observation and examination in my Department.
