Vol. 80 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Price of Meat.

asked the Minister for Supplies whether he is aware that several Dublin victuallers have recently been forced to cease business, and that many others have been and are operating at a loss; and, if so, if he will have the price of meat investigated by the Prices Commission with a view to enabling these victuallers to carry on and to safeguarding a sufficient supply of beef and mutton at reasonable prices for home consumption.

I am not aware that several Dublin victuallers have recently been forced to cease business, and that many others are operating at a loss. Food prices are constantly under examination in my Department, and any representations made by the Dublin victuallers regarding the prices of beef and mutton will receive full consideration. No such representations have been made since January last, when agreement in the matter of prices was reached.
