Vol. 81 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Acquisition of Estate.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state whether the Land Commission have yet instituted proceedings for the acquisition of the White estate at Mount Prospect, Rathangan, and, if so, whether he can state when the lands are likely to be acquired and divided.

The Land Commission have not instituted proceedings for the acquisition of the former White estate (now the estate of James P. Tyrrell) at Mount Prospect.

Will the Minister say if the Land Commission propose to institute proceedings for the acquisition of these lands in view of the large number of uneconomic holders in the area, and following representations received from local Old I.R.A. men.

I think in view of the policy pursued by the Land Commission for home time it is not likely that any steps will be taken in the future.

No matter what the Land Commission policy may be, the local people are anxious to get land in the area for conacre. Could they not take some steps to deal with this problem where it exists, as in this instance?

The general policy will have to be changed first.
