Vol. 81 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Military Pension Applications.

asked the Minister for Defence if he is in a position to state when a decision will be reached on the application of Mr. John Hayes, Dooneen, Rosscarbery for a military service pension.

As the referee has not yet reported on the application made under the Military Service Pensions Act, 1934, by Mr. John Hayes, Dooneen, Rosscarbery, I am not in a position to state when a decision will be reached thereon.

asked the Minister for Defence if he will state whether a decision has been reached in the case of John Murphy, Mountain, Ardfield, Clonakilty, County Cork, an applicant for a military service pension, who was examined in support of his claim about three years ago, and if a decision has not been reached, what steps he proposes to take to expedite a decision.

On the evidence before him the finding of the referee on the application made under the Military Service Act, 1934, by Mr. John Murphy, Mountain, Ardfield, Clonakilty, is that the applicant is not a person to whom the Act is applicable. He will be notified of the findings at an early date.

asked the Minister for Defence if he is aware that an application for a pension or gratuity has been made by Private Patrick Whyte (No. 27207), who met with a motor-cycle accident while serving in the Army, on the 4th of December, 1939, near Mullingar, sustained a broken leg and was discharged from the Army on the 17th July as unfit for service and, if so, when a decision will be given in this case.

Mr. Patrick Whyte has submitted an application under the Army Pensions Acts in respect of a fractured leg. The circumstances under which he was injured have been the subject of investigation and Mr. Whyte's claim is being referred to the Army Pensions Board with a view to his medical examination. He will be notified of the result as soon as possible.
