Vol. 81 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Military Service Pension Claims.

asked the Minister for Defence if he will state whether a decision has yet been arrived at in respect of the claim for a pension under the Military Service Pensions Acts (1934), which was submitted by Mrs. K. Geoghegan, Barrack Street, Carlow.

The referee has not yet completed his report on the application for service certificate made under the Military Service Pensions Act, 1934, by Mrs. Kathleen Geoghegan, Barrack Street, Carlow.

In view of the fact that the Minister stated in September, 1938, that this case was then before the referee, will he indicate now why it has taken the referee almost two and a half years to come to a decision in this case?

Actually the referee is awaiting a report from the brigade to which this lady was attached and I am afraid, until that report is received, not very much advance can be made.

Do I take it that nothing further can be done in consideration of this case until the brigade council make their local records available?

I think the Deputy can take that for granted.

asked the Minister for Defence whether he has yet received a report from the referee on the application of Mr. Seán O'Neill, Queensfort, Brownsgrove Post Office, Tuam, who applied for a military service pension a very considerable time ago, and, if not, if he can indicate the cause of the delay in view of the fact that the board has been supplied with all the necessary information and evidence required to deal with the case.

Report on the application made under the Military Service Pensions Act, 1934, by Mr. Seán O'Neill, Queensfort, Brownsgrove, Tuam, has not yet been completed by the referee.

The applicant, when notified on 30th August last of the finding of the referee, lodged statutory appeal, together with additional evidence, for its revision. The referee has withheld completion of his report pending discussion and investigation of the appeal at sessions to be held for verification of undecided applications and appeals of members of the former brigades in which the applicant served.
