Vol. 81 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Mayo Lands.

Mr. Walsh

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state when the Land Commission intend to finally settle the rearrangement of the George A. Moore estate which includes the townlands of Ara, South, and Ara, North, and if he will consider before the Land Commission comes to a final arrangement of this estate the urgent necessity of migrating at least three or four of the smallholders living in the above townlands to economic holdings in a less congested area.

It is not possible at present to say when the Land Commission will be in a position to complete the rearrangement of the holdings on the G. A. Moore estate, including those situated in the townland of Ara. Proceedings for the resumption of three holdings on which the rearrangement will depend have yet to be completed. When settling the final details of the arrangement the Land Commission will consider the feasibility of migrating some of the smallholders at present living in the area.

Mr. Walsh

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state whether the Land Commission intend in the near future to acquire the estate of James Dick (Record No. S. 9325) Lands, Knockatinnywell, County Mayo, for the purpose of relieving the acute congestion which exists in that area.

It is the intention of the Land Commission to acquire at an early date the lands of Knockatinnywell on the estate of James Dick, and a scheme for their division is under consideration.
