Vol. 82 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Public Authorities and Relief Schemes.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state to what extent and on what basis the Government will assist public authorities in the furtherance of relief schemes to cope with the growing unemployment.

The Estimates for Public Services, 1941-42, which were circulated on 11th March, 1941, include under Vote 67 the sum of £1,000,000 for the relief of unemployment and distress. The provisional allocations of this Vote have not yet been determined, but in recent years the bulk of the moneys provided have been put at the disposal of the local authorities, and it is anticipated that a similar procedure will be adopted in the current financial year.
