Vol. 82 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Written Answers. - Sanitary Officers.

Mr. Byrne

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will state the date on which it is proposed to hold the next examination for persons desiring to qualify as sanitary officers; if he is aware that last September an advertisement appeared in some newspapers to the effect that a course of study was to be provided in both universities in Dublin, in preparation for a qualifying examination which was to be held at the conclusion of same under the direction of the Minister for Local Government and Public Health and that a large number attended the courses at heavy expense to their families and have since heard nothing further about the proposed examination.

While my Department is very much interested in examinations for qualification as sanitary officers, in view of the importance of such officers in public health administration, it cannot be assumed that such examinations are held under the direction of the Minister for Local Government and Public Health. The advertisement issued by the universities of Dublin did not state so. Previous examinations were held by the Local Appointments Commissioners. I can assure the Deputy that I am anxious that arrangements for the holding of the examination be pressed forward.
