Vol. 83 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Unexpended Balances, 1940-41.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state in respect of each Vote the total of which was not expended in the financial year 1940/41, the amount of the unexpended balance surrendered or liable to be surrendered to the Exchequer at the expiration of the financial year and the total sum so surrendered or liable to be surrendered in respect of all such Votes.

It is impracticable to give a firm figure regarding the amount to be surrendered out of a Vote until the Appropriation Account is settled in the autumn of a year; but one of the tables which, in accordance with the practice in recent years, is being circulated in connection with the Budget will show issues made during 1940-41 for the several Votes and will compare the total issues with the total of the Estimates for that year.
