Vol. 83 No. 10

Ceisteanna.—Questions. Oral Answers. - Supplies of Goats' Milk.

Mr. Byrne

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state what regulations, if any, are in operation to prevent the wholesale slaughter of milch goats, and if he will take steps to safeguard from speculating purchasers the small owners and their families who are dependent on goats' milk during a period when no other supply is available.

There are no regulations in force relating to the slaughter of goats. Owners of goats who dispose of them for slaughter do so of their own free will. In the circumstances I do not propose to take the steps suggested.
