Vol. 84 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Unemployment Assistance.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state when it is proposed to commence operating the scheme for the provision of supplementary allowances to persons in receipt of unemployment assistance; whether he will consider favourably a proposal to extend these allowances to persons in rural areas and to women without dependents in urban and in rural areas.

It is proposed to commence operating the scheme for the provision of supplementary allowances at the earliest practicable date which, in the case of recipients of unemployment assistance, will be 4th September next.

Financial considerations exclude any possibility of the extension of the scheme in the manner suggested in the second part of the question.
