Vol. 84 No. 17

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Supply of Coal for Threshing.

asked the Minister for Supplies if he is aware that threshing coal is not supplied by the threshing machine owners, but is supplied by the individual farmer who hires the threshing machine; if he will state that steps are being taken to get a supply of coal for this purpose, what steps must farmers take to make known their needs for threshing purposes, and from what source will these needs be supplied.

The answer to the first part of the Deputy's question is in the affirmative. Arrangements are being made to ensure that supplies of coal will be available to meet threshing requirements, but in present circumstances there can be no certainty that the supply in each area will be adequate and turf or timber may have to be utilised. The steps to be taken by farmers to secure supplies of fuel for this purpose will be announced in the near future.
