Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Gárda Retirements.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will state the names of the Gárda officers and men, indicating the rank in each case, who have been retired under the provisions of the Gárda Síochána (Retirement) Regulations made by him on June 13th, the period of service of each person retired and the amount of the pension awarded to him.

Eight members of the Gárda Síochána have been retired under the Gárda Síochána (Retirement) Regulations, 1941, viz.:—Chief Superintendents: Eamonn Coogan, Matthias McCarthy, James J. Hannigan, Patrick Clinton, George O'Dwyer, and Cornelius O'Halloran; and Superintendents Loftus H. Smith and Peter Ennis. The periods of service, in completed years, were:—Messrs. Coogan, Hannigan, Clinton, O'Halloran and Smith (18 years); Messrs McCarthy and O'Dwyer (19 years); Mr. Ennis (17 years). Each of the retired officers received, immediately on his retirement, a sum equivalent to three months' pay on the condition that any pension awarded would not commence until 1st November next. The amounts to be awarded by way of pension have not yet been fixed.
