Vol. 85 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Nicholastown Lands (Kildare).

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state whether the Land Commission have under consideration the question of the acquisition of the land of the late Thomas Winder at Nicholastown, Kilcullen, and if he will state whether the lands are likely to be acquired and divided.

The Deputy's question appears to refer to the holding of Thomas Winder, lands of Nicholastown, on the estate of Irish Land Commission (formerly John Hamilton Stubbs), Record No. S.2865, County Kildare.

There are no proceedings pending in the Land Commission for the resumption of these lands.

In view of the fact that the lands are close to the town of Kilcullen, and regarded as suitable for allottees, will the Minister examine the matter sympathetically with a view to their acquisition and division amongst local economic holders and landless men?

The Deputy is aware that all new proceedings are held up.

I did not think that special cases were included.

Only where there is acute congestion. There is the general difficulty at present of providing houses. That affects the Land Commission very seriously. I shall look into the matter again, but I cannot say definitely that anything will be done.
