Vol. 85 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Provision of Meals and Cooking and Distributing Depôts.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will state whether a scheme for the provision of meals and of depôts and services for the preparation, cooking and distribution of food under Emergency Powers (109) Order, 1941. has been prepared by the Corporation of Dublin and approved by the Minister and, if so, whether it is intended to publish details of the scheme; and, if not, if he will state the approximate date by which he expects such a scheme to be prepared and approved, and whether it has been proposed to publish the details of such scheme.

A scheme for the provision of cooked food and its distribution at depôts in the city was submitted by the City Manager on Monday, 27th inst. It is under examination and a decision will be given as soon as all the matters arising out of the examination have been satisfactorily settled. No doubt in due course details of the scheme as approved will be published by the corporation. In the meantime I may say that the corporation have established and equipped a kitchen at the Mansion House and are also arranging, with other local authorities in Dublin who have cooking facilities at their disposal for the supply of cooked food. Convenient centres will be established throughout the city for the distribution of cooked food. It is intended to commence with four of these in the central districts and to increase the number as the need arises.
