Vol. 85 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Kildare Turbary.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state whether the Land Commission have completed their inquiries regarding the acquisition of the turbary in the townland of Baronstown West, Milltown, Newbridge (A. & R. 42523/40) and whether he is yet in a position to state when the turbary will be acquired and divided.

The Land Commission have not yet completed their inquiries regarding the turbary in the townland of Baronstown West, and therefore it is not at present possible to state whether or when the turbary will be acquired and divided.

As the Minister informed me in April last that those inquiries were then being instituted, is he now in a position to say when they are likely to be completed?

I cannot say. Owing to the difficulties of transport, and the shortage of inspectorial staff in the Land Commission—a very large number of inspectors has been transferred to special work in other Departments—I am not in a position, I regret to say, to give any definite date, but I will look into the matter again.

Would the Minister say whether inquiries have been started even, apart from whether they have been completed?

Yes; they have been started.

Would the Minister not consider that a day's visit to this turbary should be sufficient to produce a report?
