Vol. 85 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Houses on County Kildare Estate.

asked the Minister for Lands whether he is aware of the fact that two houses which were erected by the Land Commission on the Eivers estate at Parsonstown, Carbury, County Kildare, have been unoccupied for two years, and whether, in view of the number of local applicants who are anxious to secure the houses and adjoining lands, he will reconsider the matter with a view to allotting the two remaining parcels of land to local applicants.

I am not in a position to make any statement at present on this matter which is under investigation by the Land Commission.

Is the Minister aware of the fact that two houses erected by the Land Commission have been unoccupied for the past two years, that no rent is being paid for them, and that local people are seeking those houses? Is it reasonable, considering the acute housing shortage locally, that two houses erected out of public moneys should be allowed to remain idle for two years?

I am hopeful that the matter will be straightened out shortly.

Somebody should be flattened out if they do not straighten it out shortly.
