Vol. 85 No. 3

Order of Business.

It is proposed to take business on the Order Paper in the following order—Nos. 1, 4, 5, 6, 8, 7, 9, 10 and 11; Nos. 2 and 3 to be taken in their appropriate place.

What is the cause of the delay in circulating No. 14— National Health Insurance Bill?

It is not ready, I understand.

Can the Tánaiste say when it will be ready?

I cannot say at present.

Is there a likelihood that we shall get it soon?

I hope so.

When will No. 13— Control of Imports (Amendment) Bill —be taken?

They have not the faintest notion when it will be taken. Can the Tánaiste say are we going to sit next week?

I imagine that that would depend on the rapidity with which we get through the business this week. If necessary, yes.

If you get all this business to-day are you going to adjourn for a fortnight?

I think so—that is, provided we get all the business down for to-day and to-morrow.

Is the Minister aware that No. 16—Valuation Bill—has been on the Order Paper for three years?

There is no hurry about it so.

The Minister's predecessor said this Bill would be a boon if it were introduced and passed. It has proved to be a balloon instead of a boon.

The Deputy should have read the remarks of the Minister for Local Government on the Bill recently.

Are you going to take Private Deputies' time?

There will probably be a good deal of time available for Private Deputies to-morrow.

Why should we not take Private Deputies' business this evening?

The Dáil will adjourn to-night at 9.30 p.m.

Surely it is not suggested that you are going to wipe out the whole institution of Private Members' time? I have no objection to your taking it to-day if you provide Private Members' time to-morrow.

If we can.

If the Tánaiste says that Private Members' time will be taken up to-day, but that it will be given to us to-morrow, that is all right as far as I am concerned.

It is quite possible that we shall have time for Private Members' business this evening. If so, it certainly will be given.

Why say you will "give" it to them? Private Members have time.

There is a certain amount of business to be got through. It is quite possible it will be finished before 9 o'clock—possibly before 8 o'clock now, if the new order be adopted. If so, Private Members will have no grievance.

Has it not been settled that we shall sit to-morrow and that such time as is not required for Government business will be given to Private Deputies to-morrow?

It is desirable that Private Members' time should start earlier than 9 o'clock if the proposal to adjourn early is carried. The time, I think, should be 8 o'clock.

We have not adopted the new order yet.

In connection with the consideration of it and the possible discussion of it, will the Tánaiste bear that in mind?
