Vol. 85 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Cork Road Scheme.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he is aware that work ceased about 18 months ago on a programme of improvements of the roads in the Berehaven Peninsula, partly financed by grants from the Department and the Cork County Council, and if he will state when it is proposed to resume work on the scheme.

This work was partly financed out of the Road Fund. Owing to decline in revenue, the position of the Road Fund does not admit of the allocation of grants for road improvement works. As long as present conditions last I can see no prospect of allocation from the Road Fund for the resumption of work on the scheme, but I will see how far it may be possible to continue work on a restricted basis with portion of the grant available from the Employments Schemes Vote to supplement the contribution made by the county council.
