Vol. 85 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Grants for Road Work.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will state the reason why grants notified to Cork County Council for the improvements of Bandon-Crookstown road, Inchigeela-Ballingeary road, and the Drimoleague-Skibbereen road have been cancelled, and if he is prepared to reconsider this matter further.

Road improvement grants were allocated provisionally as usual last year. Owing to the acute effect on the revenue of the Road Fund occasioned by the petrol shortage, it became necessary in January last to withhold ratification of all grants in respect of which plans had not already been approved by that date. The Cork County Council scheme was one of those affected. In present circumstances I do not see any prospect of reconsidering the position.
