Vol. 85 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Farmers' Stocks of Wheat.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he is aware that many farmers who grew wheat this year have retained their total crop on the farm for animal feeding purposes, and seeing the grave danger of a shortage of flour for the people's food during the coming months does he propose to take any steps to make farmers release wheat so held by them.

I am not aware of any case in which wheat is being retained in the manner and for the purpose suggested by the Deputy. It is illegal to use wheat for the feeding of animals, and any instance of such use should be reported to the Department of Supplies for suitable action.
