Vol. 85 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Army Marriage Allowances.

asked the Minister for Defence whether he is aware that there are in the Army a number of men who were married subsequent to April, 1941, and who are not receiving a marriage allowance; whether he is aware that the absence of a marriage allowance in these cases is the cause of considerable hardship leading to discontent, and whether, in view of these facts, he is prepared to authorise the payment of marriage allowances and children's allowances to serving soldiers married subsequent to April, 1941.

I am aware that there are such cases, and the question of extending marriage allowance to cover them has been under consideration for some time. It is hoped that a decision will be reached in the near future.
