Vol. 85 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Accommodation of Turf Workers.

asked the Minister for Finance whether he is yet in a position to indicate the proposed location of huts in the County Kildare for the accommodation of turf workers, and the number of workers whom it is proposed to accommodate.

Contracts have been placed for the erection of camps to serve the bog areas of Lullymore, Timahoe and Mounds, portion of which areas are in County Offaly. In addition, several existing buildings are being adapted for the same purpose, viz., Edenderry (former) Union buildings (portion of), Newbridge (former) military barracks (portion of), and Robertstown House. The aggregate number of workers for whom it is expected to have accommodation ready in time for the turf-cutting season in 1942 on these bogs is about 2,500.
