Vol. 85 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Turf Programme for Ensuing Year.

asked the Minister for Finance whether he is yet in a position to indicate the turf programme for the ensuing year.

While it is possible to state generally that the policy aimed at is (1) to extend and make reasonably self-sufficient the area dependent on native fuel; (2) to produce in that area in addition to their own requirements at the places most suitable the maximum amount of native fuel capable of being transported to the non-turf area up to July, 1943, there are at present a number of uncertain factors in the situation which make a detailed statement at the moment undesirable.

When does the Parliamentary Secretary hope to be in a position to make that detailed statement? Would it be possible for him to make it on the Supplementary Estimate?

When is it likely to be made?

I should be anxious to make it at the earliest possible date but it might be a fortnight before I could do so. I do not mention that by way of promise.

Mr. Byrne

Will the Parliamentary Secretary take steps to see that fuel, or so-called fuel, coming into the City of Dublin will not be allowed to be sold containing 50 per cent. of moisture?

That is a separate question.

That is a separate question and I think that, at the moment, it is a gross misrepresentation of the position.

Mr. Byrne

I can produce evidence to that effect.
