Vol. 85 No. 17

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Fire Brigade Services.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state whether the Northern authorities have expressed their desire to meet the cost of the services rendered in Belfast by the fire brigades of the Dublin Corporation and other local authorities following on air raids in that city last year.

The answer is in the affirmative. It has been intimated in reply that it was not at any time contemplated that payment should be sought for the services in question, that it is not intended to present any claim, and that the responsible authorities here were glad to be able to render every assistance in their power on the occasion. I may add that in asking for information as to the expenditure involved the Northern authorities have made it clear that they regard the services rendered by our fire brigades in Belfast as not measurable on a cash basis, and have expressed the hope of being able to repay the services in kind should the need unfortunately ever arise.
