Vol. 86 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Tillage Operations.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state whether tillage operations are being carried out on the undivided lands in the hands of the Land Commission, whether the regulation concerning compulsory tillage of 25 per cent. of arable land is enforced on all lands in the hands of the Land Commission, and whether there is any arable land in the hands of the Government on which the statutory 25 per cent. has not been tilled.

Tillage operations are being carried out on the undivided lands in the hands of the Land Commission, who are endeavouring to have cultivated not merely 25 per cent. of the arable land, but an area exceeding, as far as possible, the statutory requirements. All other arable land, coming within the scope of the Tillage Order, which is in the hands of the Government, is likewise being tilled to the extent of at least 25 per cent. of such land.
