Vol. 86 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Laoighis Water Scheme.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health whether he is now in a position to state whether the necessary legal documents dealing with the release of water-rights, which has caused delay in having the Stradbally water scheme carried out by the Laoighis Board of Health, have been received by the Board of Health; and, if so, if he will state when this work will be undertaken by said board, and the date on which the scheme was sanctioned by his Department.

The water rights have not yet been legally acquired by the board of health. The latest information received in my Department dated the 24th ultimo is to the effect that the whole cause of the delay in proceeding with this scheme is occasioned by the failure of the solicitors acting for the owners of the water rights to approve of the draft agreement which was arranged between the consulting engineer, on behalf of the board, and the consulting engineers on behalf of the owners.

I understand the solicitor for the board of health is pressing to have the agreement perfected at once.

Will the Parliamentary Secretary ask one of his inspectors, when next in the district, to look at the file of papers dealing with the unusual delay which has taken place in this case?

I am fully aware of the delay.
