Vol. 86 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Compulsory Growing of Wheat.

Mr. Byrne

asked the Minister for Agriculture if, in view of the grave situation facing the country in regard to bread supplies, he will state what steps he proposes to take to give effect to the motion recently passed by the Seanad urging that wheat growing be made obligatory.

Owing to the wide diversity of the suitability of land for wheat growing purposes, it is not considered feasible to operate a scheme under which the growing of wheat could be made obligatory.
