Vol. 86 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Potato Flour.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if it is the intention of the Government to instal machinery for the manufacture of potato flour, so that this ingredient may be incorporated in the standard loaf if the wheat position deteriorates.

I understand that certain firms here are exploring the possibility of manufacturing potato flour and are negotiating for the purchase of plant.

Could the Minister give any idea of what percentage that would provide? Is it 10 per cent?

It depends on the quantity of plant that can be obtained.

I take it the Minister realises that this is a very urgent matter?

It is also practically an impossibility to obtain machinery outside the country at the present time.
