Vol. 86 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - International Labour Office Conference.

asked the Minister for External Affairs if he will state if he has received from our representatives to the International Labour Office Conference held in New York in October last a report on the proceedings at the conference, and if he will place a copy in the Library for the information of members of the Oireachtas.

I received a confidential report from our representatives at the conference shortly after its conclusion, but the official report of the proceedings, including the texts of the resolutions proposed and adopted at the conference, has not yet reached this country. A copy of the report will be made available in the Library as soon as possible after it is received.

Has the Taoiseach made up his mind that, in the report received from our own representatives, there is nothing that could usefully be reported to the Dáil?

I do not think there is anything at the moment. The more or less formal report which used to be published in normal times contained resolutions which might be reflected here in domestic legislation, but there is nothing of that kind immediately concerned.

asked the Minister for External Affairs if he will state what matters are included on the Agenda of the International Labour Office Conference at present being held in London and the names and qualifications of any persons appointed to represent (1) the Government; (2) the employers; (3) the workers of this country thereat.

The meeting in London is not a meeting of the International Labour Conference but of an emergency committee of the Governing Body of the International Labour Organisation set up by resolution at the meeting in New York last year.

We are not a member of the committee and there is, therefore, no question of our sending representatives to the meeting.

Have the items on the agenda been conveyed to the Government here?

For the moment we have not got the items on the agenda. There was, of course, in the resolution setting up the committee, a general indication of its purposes. We will get information with regard to the proceedings in due course.
