Vol. 86 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Advances by Industrial Credit Corporation.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state the average rate of interest charged in respect of moneys advanced, if any, by the Industrial Credit Corporation since its establishment, or for different periods.

I would remind the Deputy that the Industrial Credit Company is an independent body operating under the Companies Acts and that the terms of loans made by it in pursuance of its objects are matters within the discretion of the directors and outside my responsibility. I consider that, in any event, public disclosure of information regarding the rates of interest charged on loans made by the company would be contrary to the public interest and to the interests of the company or of its actual and potential clients.

Is that the kind of information we may expect to get from the Minister when the Central Bank Bill becomes law?
