Vol. 86 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Production of Butter.

Mr. Byrne

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state what progress has been made in the production of butter within the last month, and if he has any knowledge of butter being held back from wholesalers and retailers, and if he will have an investigation into the cause of delay of supplies to the wholesalers and retailers.

The seasonal increase in the production of butter is now taking place, but has been slower than usual owing to the cold spell during the past fortnight. I am not aware that butter is being held back from wholesalers and retailers or that supplies to distributors are being unduly delayed.

Mr. Byrne

Will the Minister make inquiries as to whether butter is being withheld with a view to getting a better price? My information is that while the people concerned are waiting for an increased price, the Dublin people are lined up in queues looking for butter.
