Vol. 87 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Sale of Bull Calf.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state whether the sale of the bull calf rescued off Arranmore Island, County Donegal, has yet been advertised by the Receiver of Wrecks; if not, if any steps have been taken to invite offers for the animal, what these steps were, the number of offers received, whether any of them was accepted; and, if so, the amount of such offer, the name of the purchaser, where the bull has been accommodated pending sale, and the amount paid for the said accommodation.

Since I answered the Deputy's question on this subject on the 7th May, there have been no developments regarding the disposal of the bull which has been the subject of correspondence between Departments concerned with it. I am now informed that instructions are about to be sent to the local Receiver of Wrecks authorising him to dispose of the animal locally to the best advantage. Meanwhile the bull is in the care of Patrick Gallagher, Dungloe, and no expense has been incurred to date for its maintenance.

Is he feeding the bull?

I require notice of that question.

Can the Minister say where the bull came from?

From a wreck.

Has the Minister traced its origin or where it came from?

Probably somewhere on the far side of the Atlantic.

Are you satisfied that it did not come from an infected country?
