Vol. 87 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Glengariff Relief Postmen.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if the men recently selected as postmen for relief duty in Glengariff, County Cork, have been recruited from the labour exchange and, if not, why not.

Postmen for relief duty at Glengariff are, as elsewhere, normally recruited through the local employment exchange. Recently, however, a substitute was required for the special delivery of ration books. The duty was of an intricate nature owing to the number of persons of the same name residing in the locality and the employment exchange nominee was not regarded as suitable as he had no previous Post Office experience. A man who had been previously employed as substitute postman was in the circumstances exceptionally engaged. His services were required for only 11 days.

And he was recommended by a Fianna Fáil T.D.?
