Vol. 88 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Tenancy of Kerry Cottage.

Mr. Lynch

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health whether he is aware that last November the County Kerry Board of Health allotted a cottage at Knockavota, Milltown, County Kerry, to a man who has since never occupied it for a single day, but has sub-let the cottage and the plot attached to it to an unmarried man, while a married agricultural labourer named Teahan, a man having pre-Truce I.R.A. service, is living with his wife and four young children in a damp, insanitary house adjacent to that cottage, and has been applying for a cottage for the past six years without avail; and whether, in view of the foregoing, the Minister will take steps to ensure that the Kerry Board of Health will give this cottage to Mr. Teahan.

As the Deputy is aware, representations were made by my Department to the Kerry Board of Health and Public Assistance in regard to the letting of this cottage. The latest information available is to the effect that the board gave instructions on the 19th ultimo to their solicitor to take proceedings against the person to whom it was let for possession of the cottage. I have no authority to direct the board of health to give the cottage to any particular tenant.
