Vol. 88 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Repair of Wicklow Road.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he is aware that the road on the County Wicklow boundary of the Featherbed Mountain is almost impassable, and until it is repaired it will not be possible to remove turf which is being cut in the area; and whether he will take the necessary steps to see that the road is put into proper condition.

A scheme is at present in progress for the improvement of the road from Dublin County boundary through Glencree to Sallygap to meet the needs of turf transport. Quantities of stone are being hauled over the road preparatory to steam-rolling and the road is naturally in poor condition owing to transport of stone. It is being temporarily patch-rolled so as to keep it in fair order according as the actual reconstruction proceeds. The work of reconstruction is being pressed forward as much as possible.

Is it likely to be in a suitable state for moving in turf within the next month?

I could not give the Deputy that information.
