Vol. 88 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Export of Fat Cows.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state the reasons for the restrictions on the export of fat cows.

When arrangements were being made towards the end of October of last year for the shipment to Great Britain of increased numbers of cattle for slaughter, the British Ministry of Food intimated a preference for bullocks and heifers for the time being. At a later stage, the export of a limited number of fat cows was permitted from Cork and Waterford ports. The Ministry of Food has again been approached in the matter and has agreed to accept a limited number of fat cows, and export will now be permitted from all ports.
