Vol. 88 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Turbary Plots in Killorglin Area.

Mr. Flynn

asked the Minister for Lands if he is aware that a considerable number of smallholders and labourers find it difficult to obtain turbary plots in the neighbourhood of Killorglin, County Kerry; and if he will take steps to acquire and divide 250 acres of turbary at Knocknaboola, Killorglin, on the Blennerhassett estate, which is held as a grazing right by six trustees.

The matter is not one in which the Land Commission is prepared to take any action. The bog in question on which there now remains uncut an area of about 50 acres of shallow turbary, was conveyed to trustees by the vendor in connection with the sale of the Blennerhassett estate through the Estates Commissioners under the Land Act, 1903, and is administered by the trustees mainly for the benefit of holdings on the estate.
