Vol. 88 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Claim.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state whether any decision has been come to in the matter of 91 Donore Terrace, Claim No. 411/1191 (5); and when the money will be paid over to the occupier, who is at present living in a flat pending a decision.

Two applications under the Neutrality (War Damage to Property) Act, 1941, were lodged with my Department by the owner of the premises referred to in the question. The first application was lodged on the 13th January, 1942, and related to the contents of the house and expenditure on alternative accommodation. An offer of compensation in respect of this application was made on the 26th May, 1942; the offer was accepted and payment was made on the 19th June. The second application—which was concerned with the damage to the premises—was not lodged until the 28th February, 1942. It is at present under examination and will be disposed of as soon as possible.

The Minister has mentioned the word "damage" in regard to the second application but it is not a question of damage. There is a hole left there in which there are a few bricks and some mortar which might or might not belong to that house or a house 50 yards away. I should like to suggest that the claim is one in respect of a total loss and the Minister should be able to make up his mind fairly quickly.

The point about that is that the Minister for Finance has only recently received plans for the new house.
