Vol. 88 No. 8

Ceist—Question. Written Answer. - Turf Taken by Military.

asked the Minister for Defence if he will state whether he is aware that, on the 13th September, 1941, five horse loads of turf valued at £5 were taken by the military authorities from Mr. T. Kilmartin, South Quay, Newcastle West; and if he will state for what reason the turf was taken; whether any payment has been made to Mr. Kilmartin for the turf; and, if so, if he will say the amount paid and the date of this payment; and if not if he will state why no payment has been made.

The military had some ricks of turf in the vicinity of Mr. Kilmartin's ricks at Keale, Athea, and in drawing away their turf some turf the property of Mr. Kilmartin was taken by the military in error.

I regret that some delay has taken place in adjusting this matter but arrangements are now being made for the settlement of Mr. Kilmartin's claim.
