Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Unemployment Insurance Statistics.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state the amount expended upon unemployment insurance during the financial year 1941-42, and the total number of persons insured in the month of April in each of the years 1940, 1941 and 1942; and also the numbers for the building trade.

The amount paid in respect of unemployment insurance to work people and associations during the financial year 1941-42 was £879,092, this figure being subject to adjustment on audit.

The estimated total numbers of persons insured under the Unemployment Insurance Acts at the beginning of April in the years 1940, 1941 and 1942, were, respectively, 389,900, 384,800, and 391,600. The estimated numbers insured under the Unemployment Insurance Acts in the building trade at the same dates were, respectively, 37,300, 35,600, and 33,900. The last figure is preliminary and subject to revision.
